Fishing Lake Fork in August

Lake_Fork_Fishing_75.jpg

The Texas heat has finally reached 100 degrees here in August, which can make fishing a bit difficult at Lake Fork. Right now I am focusing on the off shore points I had mentioned in my previous report but instead of the shallow water in the morning, I am targeting the tops and backsides of old pond dams. In the mornings, if the bass are on the bottom of the pond dams, I am throwing a drop shot with a Magnum Finesse Worm. Also I am throwing 5 to 7 inch Joe Spaits Flutter Spoon and a 6th Sense Cloud 9 C10 Chrome-Treuse Shad #1 crank bait.

Once the sun gets up, I move out and focus on 18ft to 28ft of water and throwing a Texas Rigged Big Zoom Worm 10.5 inch to 12 inch in length. When it is windy I will use a 1/2 ounce Outdoors Tungsten Weight but on days with no wind or around thick brush piles, I will use a 3/8 ounce with that Texas Rig setup. However when the bass are stacked up on the bottom I will throw Mann’s 12in Jelly Worm which seems to do the trick!

When I locate suspended bass around bridge pillars and cross member beams, deep diving Molix Jerk Baits is what getting it done. I am having success with a 1/2 ounce War Eagle Spoon works good around deeper marina slips and boat docks.

Fishing Lake Fork in July

Fishing Lake Fork in July for bass has been on fire!! The mornings I have been fishing floating hyacinth grass that stretches out into deeper water and also Lilly pads. When sun gets up and around 10:00 am I go deep. Lots of graphing with my Lowrance Electronics, focusing on river channel swings, main lake humps, main lake points, deeper road beds and some deeper boat docks with brush piles in them. Depending on where I’m at and how the fish are set on my graph, will depend on what I throw.

For shallow water bite around the grass, I am throwing a popping frog in a Bluegill color made by SPRO, Santone swim jigs, and neko rigged trick worms. Around deeper boat docks with brush and cover, I am throwing 6th Sense L7 Movement square bill crankbait and a Scottsborro Tackle 5 inch, swimbait rigged weedless.

On off shore river channel swings, humps, roadbeds and points, I am chunking a Santone Football Jig in color Pinto Beans and Carrots with a Strike King Rage Craw as a trailer bait in color Alabama Craw to match my jig as best as I can. Also, if the fish are on the bottom, a Magnum Shaky Head with Magnum Trick Worm has been a great producer.

In the days the off shore fish are not grouped up and scattered, I am using a Santone under spin with a Scottsborro Tackle 4 inch Swimbait as trailer bait. Also a Carolina rig with a 5 ft leader and a 7 inch Mark pack Impact Fluke in color green pumpkin magic but dipping the tail in Chartreuse Garlic Dip. The glow has helped them find and hold on to the bait longer before spitting it out.

Falcon Lake | Winter Bass Fishing

I started 2019 out heading down south to Falcon Lake and the fishing down here has been awesome! The fishing patterns on Falcon Lake here lately have been a little different. For the past month I have been targeting staging pre spawn bass and bass on beds. The heavy winds down here has the water temps at 56-63 degrees with water clarity varying around the lake.

Staging Pre Spawn Bass
The staging bass I am focusing on river channels swings and secondary points in depths around 8ft to 16ft. The more structure or cover around these areas, the better. Majority of the time the Carolina Rigs and Big Texas Rigs seem to be working for me. The best baits for me have been the Brush Hog on a Carolina Rig and a 10 1/2 inch worm on the Texas Rig.

Bass on Beds
The best areas for bedding have been protected coves around timber in depths varying between 2ft to 6ft depending where you are on the lake. The best baits that have been doing the trick for me are a Texas Rigged Pegged Creature Bait in a Watermelon based color.

As my time down at Falcon Lake is coming to an end, it has definitely been worth the drive! I will be heading back up to the Legendary Lake Fork to get in on some pre-spawn action!
